Keith Ferda, Head Pro at Spring Lake Racquet Club, calls out the draws for his 2015 Wimbledon event

Keith Ferda has been the head pro at the Spring Lake Racquet Club in Hilton Head Plantation for 35 years.  Every May he stages his popular Wimbledon event.  This one day club tournament features doubles and mixed doubles matches between four teams, with lunch afterwards featuring strawberries and whipped cream. The “French Kissers”, captained by Deeann Carlson won this year.

The Wimbledon teams are formed at a draw party the Wednesday evening before.  There is a pro exhibition afterwards.  This year four of the Pro League stars played a competitive set which went to a tie-break.  Thanks are in order to Keith for all the hard work he puts into this event!

Marcos Andruska hits a winning volley at the Moss Creek Pro League

Last Friday evening, Tom Ruth (Director of Tennis) and Moss Creek hosted the fifth installment of the popular Pro League Tennis series.  It was a perfect evening with pleasant temperatures, great seating, delicious food, and of course, spectacular tennis.

Player’s World of Sports  staged a tennis fashion show between matches that featured the latest in youth and adult tennis apparel.

hilton head pro league tennisFor the first time all year, there was a match that did not go to a 2-1 result. This happened when the Island Family Dental team swept first place Spinnaker in the late  matches.  This was by no means an easy task. The final match came down to a nail-biting tie-breaker on court 2.

The “Toms” played the “Mikes” at Moss Creek. Tom Ruth, Tom Coulton, Mike Sutcliffe, and Mike Pollard.

In the early matches, Player’s World beat Merrill Lynch 2-1 with the help of Van Der Meer pro, Marcos Andruska, who has been filling in for Eric Wammock.

In the standings, Spinnaker and Island Family Dental traded places.   There is one more week of the regular season before the finals at Long Cove on June 5th.   For more information on the Hilton Head Pro League, visit the Pro League Facebook page at  www.facebook.com/HHIPTL.
